The 2020 College Hockey America Tournament is upon us. The top 2 teams in the conference get a bye into the semifinal round while the bottom 4 seeds play in a quarterfinal round to determine who moves on. The highest remaining seed takes on Robert Morris and the lowest remaining seed faces off against Mercyhurst.

  2. Robert Morris
  3. Syracuse
  4. Penn State
  5. RIT
  6. Lindenwood

The simulation is created using a modified version of the game prediction tool.

Round 1 – Quarterfinals

#3 Syracuse vs. #6 Lindenwood

Lindenwood is bad, m’kay. The model agrees. Syracuse goes into this afternoon’s game a heavy favorite.

Winner: #3 Syracuse 70% to 30%

#4 Penn State vs. #5 RIT

I don’t have that much to say other than let’s get it. The prediction tool gives RIT the upset win, 53% to 47% over a good Penn State team. I haven’t dug too deep into the numbers to see why, but it should be an exciting match-up.

Winner: #5 RIT 53% to 47%

Round 2 – Semifinals

#1 Mercyhurst vs. #5 RIT

After a great regular season the crown is Mercyhurst’s to take. I personally don’t see anyone beating them and that includes RIT, the model would agree.

Winner: #1 Mercyhurst 59% to 41%

#2 Robert Morris vs. #3 Syracuse

This will probably be one of the most intriguing match-ups before the championship game. Both teams are pretty even statistically and they split the season series at 2 games each. Robert Morris is given the edge heading into this one.

Winner: #2 Robert Morris 54% to 46%

Round 3 – Championship

#1 Mercyhurst vs. #2 Robert Morris

A super close match-up has the #2 seed prevailing over the #1, but barely. This really is anyone’s game. I personally think Mercyhurst emerges as the champions, so we will see.

Winner: #2 Robert Morris 51% to 49%
